Copper Busbar RFQ Checklist for BESS Projects
BESS busbars are custom components integrated into a larger electrical and mechanical design. A BESS-specific RFQ should give the manufacturer enough information to quote the correct current path, insulation and interfaces without exposing unnecessary system detail. This checklist can be copied into your purchasing form.

Electrical duty
- DC system voltage
- Continuous current
- Peak current and duration
- Number of parallel paths
- Expected ambient and enclosure temperature
- Any project-defined temperature-rise or test requirement
Mechanical interface
- 2D drawing and, if available, 3D model
- Terminal positions, hole sizes and fastener information
- Critical dimensions/datum locations
- Installation orientation and space envelope
- Bending, vibration or movement requirement
- Assembly photo where the routing is not obvious
Material and protection
- Copper grade or approved equivalent
- Bare, tin or nickel-plated contact areas
- Insulation type: epoxy, heat shrink or other
- Colour, coverage and masked zones
- Environmental exposure and corrosion requirements
Quality and supply requirements
- Prototype or first-article requirement
- Material certificate and inspection report needs
- Required quantity and forecast volume
- Packing, labelling and shipping requirements
- Target project date and delivery location
Why this level of detail pays off
The checklist helps the supplier see whether a rigid bar, flexible link or a combination is most appropriate. It also prevents common quotation gaps: omitted masking, unsuitable insulation coverage, unverified hole tolerances or an unclear drawing revision. A short engineering review at RFQ stage is usually less expensive than reworking a cabinet after parts arrive.
