How to Specify Copper Busbars in an RFQ
A complete request for quotation lets a manufacturer quote the right busbar faster and reduces revision cycles. The goal is to describe the part’s functional requirements and the evidence you need at delivery. A simple photograph can start a conversation, but a drawing and defined requirements are essential for repeatable production.
The essential information
1. Drawing or 3D model: Include all dimensions, hole patterns, bends and critical datums. 2. Material: State the required copper grade or standard. 3. Electrical context: Provide continuous current, peak current, voltage and application when relevant. 4. Surface treatment: Specify bare, tin-plated, nickel-plated or another approved finish, including masked zones. 5. Insulation: Define epoxy coating, heat shrink or other insulation, coverage and colour. 6. Tolerances: Highlight only function-critical dimensions, hole positions and bends. 7. Quantity: Provide prototype, batch and expected annual volume where available. 8. Quality documents: State if you need material certificates, FAI, dimensional reports or other records. 9. Packaging and delivery: Identify label, packing, shipment and target date requirements.
Explain the interface
The drawing should show how the busbar mates with bolts, terminals, fuses, battery modules or cabinet hardware. Identify contact pads and state if they must remain free of coating. If an installation has tight access or a fixed assembly sequence, include a photo or assembly view. This is often more valuable than adding overly tight tolerances to every feature.
Do not omit operating conditions
For BESS and high-current applications, mention enclosure temperature, ventilation, vibration, outdoor exposure or other conditions that affect finish and insulation choice. The manufacturer does not need confidential system details; it needs the environmental facts that change the component specification.

If you do not have a finished drawing
Send a sample, hand sketch, dimensions, mating-interface photo and operating requirements. A manufacturer can help create a quote-ready specification, but final production should be released against an agreed drawing.
